Oliver Became an activist at the age of eight when, after learning about animal use in science, he started distributing anti-vivisection leaflets in people’s mailboxes. He later participated in many anti-bullfighting campaigns, and has been involved with the local animal rights scene since 2001. He also regularly writes letters in support of human rights around the World. Oliver has been a vegetarian for 14 years, and a vegan for more than 6 years. When not working or doing activism, he can be found sipping organic and fair trade spiced tea, or making (and eating!) vegan chocolate cakes and cookies. Oliver is the ASAP Volunteer Coordinator, and the Audio-Visual Department Coordinator. Contact Oliver. |

Krista From a young age, Krista was able to relate to animals and found their Worlds to be fascinating places where she felt safe. Particularly awed by birds, she was closest to companion animals an by extension held great respect for all creatures. She grew up Catholic and by the age 14, openly questioned that validity of the assumption of “dominion” (the right to use animals in any way to benefit mankind) over animals to which the church and her family could not convince her was ethical or rational. At age 16, she was the first student tin her high school to conscientiously object to animal dissection in science class (with her parent’s permission) and the following year, she became vegetarian after learning the truth about the meat industry. Many years later, she finally connected the dots between the meat, dairy, egg and animal by-product industries after speaking with local animal rights activists. She became vegan and an outreach activist in the same week. Krista has participated in street theatre, leafleting and postering, film screening, public education, and vegan potlucks to further the vegan message. IN addition, she volunteers with the Elizabeth Frye Society of Mainland Nova Scotia, where she advocates for women at risk of becoming or already involved with the legal and prison system. She also takes part in peace marches and s a firm human and environmental rights supporter. Currently, Krista is a full-time student finishing her last year of a BA in Sociology. She helps ASAP co-ordinate film screenings, edits letters and literature, conducts vegan outreach and acts as a public educator. Contact Krista |
