Veganism (also strict or pure vegetarianism) is a philosophy and lifestyle that seeks to exclude the use of animal derived products for food, clothing, or any other purpose. Vegans do not use or consume animal products of any kind. The most popular reasons for becoming a vegan are ethical commitment or moral convictions concerning animal rights, the environment, or human health, and spiritual or religious concerns. Of particular concern are the practices involved in factory farming and animal testing, and the intensive use of land and other resources required for animal farming. |

Being vegan nowadays is totally different from earlier vegans who had to make their own soy milk at home! Now, you can easily find vegan food, from flavored soy milks, non-dairy ice-creams, veggie burgers and other meat alternatives, to cookies, pies and candies in most grocery stores, whole food shops, health food stores and food co-ops. You might even be surprised that many items made by mainstream food manufacturers are began. The same places generally also carry many brands of cruelty-free (not tested on animals and without animal products) personal care products (deodorants, toothpastes, shampoos) and cleaning products )laundry detergent, dishwashing soap, etc) These products are often found in the “health food section”. If you cannot find a product, talk to the manager of the store. They might be able to order it for you, or get something similar, and you will have helped make available one more vegan product in your community. Animal products free clothes and shoes are also available in most stores. Leather Alternatives (shoes, boots, fake leather jackets, skirts, trousers, etc) can be found just about anywhere you might shop, including discount shoe and variety stores. Numerous designers also offer an array on non-leather handbags, wallets and shoes. Look for labels like “man-made leather”., “all man-made materials”, “pleather” or “synthetic”. You can also purchase good quality leather-look items, made from materials such as Vegetan Uppers ( a breathable, water-resistant, 70-80% bio-degradable and easy to clean material) or Vegetan Micro ( hard-wearing, water-resistant, breathable) online from a variety of vegan companies. Most of these companies, in addition to being animal friendly, are also people friendly, i.e you don’t have to worry about sweatshop labor, and environmentally responsible. (recycled materials, etc.) If you still find it difficult to meet all your needs, or if you just prefer the convenience of it, online shopping can provide you with virtually all you can wish for.
